Hope Scholarship
Q1. What is the Hope Scholarship?
The
HOPE
Scholarship is a scholarship available only to residents
of Georgia. It covers in-state tuition, some fees, and
some book allowances.
Q2. Do I need to be a full-time student to qualify for the HOPE scholarship?
No. A student is not required to be enrolled full time to receive the HOPE Scholarship. The HOPE Scholarship will prorate based on the number of hours the student is enrolled.
Q3. The BME major requires more than 127 hours, will HOPE pay?
The HOPE Scholarship will pay beyond 127 hours attempted, if your major requires additional hours and you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at 127 attempted hours. The BME major requires 132 hours to graduate.
Q4. What courses are included with HOPE credit and GPA calculations?
Credits: All credit hours attempted after high school graduation are included with HOPE credit hour calculations. All pass/fail classes, courses withdrawn (W), courses withdrawn while failing (WF) and learning support credits are included in the attempted hours.
GPA: Of those, the pass/fail classes and courses withdrawn (W) do not affect the HOPE GPA, while the courses withdrawn while failing (WF) and the learning support grades are configured into the GPA.
Q5. What courses are excluded with
HOPE credit and GPA calculations?
The following course types are not included in HOPE calculations.
- Audited / CO-OP courses
- AP, IB, and CLEP courses
- Courses dropped during the Drop / Add period are not included in the HOPE calculations because they are erased from student records.
- Courses withdrawn due to serious medical issues may be forgiven and exempt
from consideration in the HOPE calculations. An appeal
must be sent to the Georgia Student Finance Commission
