Frequently Asked Questions
Registration Information: Part II - Permits, Overloads or Pre-Req Overrides
Q1. What are the types of overrides available?
Permit Override - A permit is given for classes you are not normally required to take, or if you are not at the correct level (for example, an undergraduate taking a graduate level class). A permit is required if you get a major restriction error, class restriction error, or a level restriction error while trying to register for a class.
Overload Override - An overload is given when a class is full and you have a close section error while trying to register for the class.
Prerequisite Override - A prerequisite permit is given when you do not have all of the required prerequisites for the classes and you get a prerequisite error while trying to register for the class.
Q2. How do I request a permit or overload for a class?
For BME classes, contact the Academic Advisor, Paul
Fincannon,
paul.fincannon@bme.gatech.edu.
For other departments, go to
http://www.registrar.gatech.edu/registration/oprequest.php
to see how the department grants permits and overloads.
Q3. Do I still need to register for the class if I have been given an overload,
permit or prerequisite override?
Yes! We cannot register you for a class; you must do this yourself.
Q4. I am an undergraduate student and I want to take a graduate level class.
How can I do this?
You must request a permit and a level restriction override.
